Ryders Farm Equestrian Centre is a Pony Club Centre where pony-mad young people who do not have a pony of their own can make friends with other like m...

RFEC instructors are experienced and qualified to teach from small people to tall people! We do, however, set a lower age limit for anyone under the age of four years. Whatever your ability, or confidence level, we have the horse and instructor to suit you.

Starting at the very basic tuition, our beginner lessons will show you firstly how to move around a horse safely, how to lead a horse, the safe way to mount and the rules of safe riding in an arena with other riders. At the other end of the scale Advanced riders are tackling the show jumping and cross country courses and preparing for our annual dressage competition.

If you would just like to "try" riding to see what it's like, or you were a horse-mad teenager and now have "matured" into a sensible adult but still remember the magic and want to recapture it, then why not visit our Taster Session. These are intended to be a gentle introduction to the special relationship we have with horses. Starting at 5.00 every Tuesday this is exactly what the name says, a little "taste" of RFEC's way of doing things. It includes a riding demonstration, a few tips on the jargon we use and - what you all come for - a trial ride on a horse or pony.

Please be aware - we cannot book places on the Taster Sessions it is strictly on a "first come - first served" basis and of course, numbers are restricted because of time and safety. So please try to come early to avoid disappointment.

We recommend that if you are already a rider and wish ride at RFEC that you join in the Taster session where one of the instructors will give you an assessment to ensure that you are fitted into the correct lesson level for you ability.

Small people sometimes find concentration and co-ordination a little daunting for long periods of time. RFEC recognises this with its Tiny Tots sessions which last just half an hour. The children learn the very basics of riding, names of tack, and what the different instructions mean - in a gentle and relaxed manner and including a bit of fun. Mum, Dad or Gran are asked to take part leading the pony to make the experience more personal and give a little confidence boost. Tiny Tots prepare the very young for the next stage of instruction and some of our ablest riders started their riding careers on a RFEC Tiny Tots session!

RFEC group lessons are a firm favourite with a chance to ride, make new friends and keep fit all at the same time!! These hour-long lessons take place every evening from Tuesday to Friday and all day Saturday and Sunday, in the indoor school and are graded according to ability from Beginners to Advanced.

Private Lessons can be on a one-to-one basis or shared with a best friend, brother, sister or spouse at a slightly lower cost. We do, however advise, that if you share with more than three others you are not getting the true benefit of individual tuition.

For those of you who wish to know more about the way your horse's behaviour and well-being or for anyone contemplating buying their own horse, Stable Management tuition is available at RFEC.. Courses are organised by Sarah Fitton BHSII - phone Sarah for more information.
